Zinc is one of the most commonly known antioxidants associated with eye health. Lack of zinc can easily cause degeneration of the macula. Zinc also helps in allowing vitamin A to be released from the liver so that it can be used by the eye tissue. The best sources of zinc are in all kinds of nuts, lentils and kidney beans.


Studies indicate that lack of this mineral cause's cataract. That is why it's highly recommended to take enough of selenium in order to maintain good vision. Brown rice and oatmeal are rich in selenium.

Different foods contain more antioxidants than others; dark green vegetables hold the biggest percentage of antioxidants. Orange or yellow fruits also possess carotenoids (vitamin C).

Green leafy vegetables, like spinach, broccoli and kale, have plenty of vitamin C and lutein, which naturally improve your eyesight. Carrot contains the best form of beta-carotene and carotenoid, which means it contains plenty of vitamin A. Tomatoes, on the other hand, contain a lot of lutein.


Oranges, strawberries and tangerines are the best examples of citrus fruits, which contain the biggest percentage of vitamin C. Yellow fruits such as peaches, melons, apricots, mangoes and papayas are very rich in lutein.

Spices and herbs

A lot of herbs possess lutein, which has not been discovered by a lot of people. This is why it is recommended to use spices and mixed herbs as a part of healthy cooking. Dill, watercress and parsley are herbs that are rich in lutein. Curry on the side of spices it contains lots of lutein. Bilberry, which is rich in lutein, helps in blood flow. Garlic is the most commonly used natural spice, which is rich in vitamin C and selenium.
