Sophisticated foods to serve at a baby shower

A baby shower is a great time to celebrate the upcoming birth of a child and besides the games and gifts, the food is an important part of this occasion. This is the time when you would serve sophisticated yet still delicious foods. You can get inspiration from cookbooks, the guest's food preferences and current food trends.

Sliced apples with brie cheese and honey

With the exception of the delicious brie cheese, this is a healthy and classy snack to serve at the baby shower. Once you bake the brie, drizzle honey all over it and surround it with the sliced apples. Then add some nuts and dried fruits to the platter for presentation. Have the guests slice pieces of their own cheese.

Mini stuffed cabbage rolls

These can be served with tomato sauce or a white sauce with herbs. To make the rolls, preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Meanwhile boil a few medium-size cabbage leaves in a pot of water until the leaves are tender. In a separate bowl mix a half pound of ground chicken or turkey, two teaspoons of tomato sauce, three teaspoons of salt, two teaspoons of black pepper, three teaspoons of onion powder and a pinch of paprika. After you remove the veins from the cabbage leaves, put meat mixture inside leaves and fold the leaves inward. Place rolls in a greased pan and pour tomato sauce over them. Bake for 90 minutes.

Self-serve sundae bar

Instead of the usual cookies or cake, why not have a self serve sundae bar? On a long rectangular table arrange a few different flavors of ice cream such as chocolate chip, butter pecan, pistachio nut, mocha and strawberry in a big decorative bowl. Then place toppings such as whipped cream, cherries, nuts and hot dessert sauces on the table.

Salmon almond salad

To make this salad, combine three cans of heated pink salmon, one cup of mayonnaise, a third cup of diced green onions, three crushed garlic cloves, three teaspoons of salt, two teaspoons of black pepper, a teaspoon of onion powder and a half cup of sliced almonds. Mix thoroughly and refrigerate until ready to serve.

Potato bites

To make this recipe, boil two pounds of small red potatoes in water until tender then drain. Cut the potatoes in half and scoop out the insides. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees and as the oven heats, put sea salt and olive oil on the potatoes and then bake for 20 minutes. While the potatoes bake, combine a half cup of sour cream, a few sprigs of dried herbs and two diced jalapeno peppers. When the potatoes are done, fill them with the sour cream mixture and serve.

Berry iced tea with mint

In a large pitcher combine three cups of warm tea, two cups of mixed berries chopped, three cups of sugar, two teaspoons of lemon juice and a teaspoon of orange juice along with a few finely chopped mint leaves. Mix well and add a few ice cubes to the tea before serving. These foods add flair to your loved one's baby shower.
