Have you ever had a crush on someone and wondered if they liked you back? I know the feeling all too well. I had to be the one to make the first move several times on guys, and I often got rejected. I believe most guys didn't want to date me because of my disability. I often wondered what I could do to make the guy like me, but then I realized I really couldn't do anything after I had already made the first move.
If you're a teenager who has a crush on someone, be sure to make the first move. Don't wait for them to notice you, because chances are they are just as nervous as you or they don't like you yet – at least not in the way you like them. Oftentimes, those who have a crush on someone will either tell the other person directly or they will tell that person's best friend. Sometimes they will write that person a note and either give it to them in person or put it in their locker. Sometimes people will give that note to the person's best friend to give to the person they have a crush on.
If you get rejected, trust me: It's okay. There are plenty of other fish in the sea, so to speak. I use to be crushed when someone didn't like me back. I realized, though, that there are other fish in the sea and that people will eventually see me for me and not as the person in a wheelchair. If you get rejected, you just need to give yourself some serious credit for asking that person out.
When you start dating and you think you're in love, that could be true. When you think you're in love, the only real way to tell if that is really true is if you care for that person deeply and want them to be happy. If you're always there for your significant other through good times and bad, then that's a sure sign that you're in love. Another sign that you're truly in love is that you are always listening to the person you're with, no matter what the conversation is about. If you're willing to help each other grow, then that is another sign that you're in love with someone.
There are several ways to have a healthy relationship as well. You will always want to listen to each other. Also you will want to treat each other like friends. You really should trust each other as well. Be honest with each other about everything, even if you are scared that it could break you up.
Trust me, there is nothing wrong with being honest. Most everyone likes honesty, and if you're honest, they are more likely to forgive you for any mistake you have made. Another thing to make sure your relationship is healthy is to strive for equality. You want to make sure you're both compromising things for the other. Also, you want to make sure that you're always giving and taking equally. It should never just be one sided.
Good communication is key as well. When I say good communication, I mean a few different things. Talk about everything. If something or someone is bothering you, then tell your significant other. Make sure that you're listening to each other as well. Never judge each other, and make sure you're listening without disrespecting the other if a conflict comes up.
